A Hidden Pavilion at Changdeokgung Opens to the Public for the First Time Tomorrow

Sept. 22–Nov. 8 · Changdeokgung Palace, Seoul · Program free with palace admission · Walk-in registration

A part of Changdeokgung Palace that visitors normally cannot enter opens to the public on September 22. Huiuru, a pavilion beside Seongjeonggak associated with the crown prince’s reading and contemplation, is being opened for general access for the first time.

Why visit now

This is not simply another palace exhibition. Access to Huiuru is tightly limited: Tuesday–Saturday, 10:30–16:30, in 15-minute sessions for no more than eight visitors at a time. With 24 sessions a day, the theoretical maximum is only 192 visitors daily. There is no advance booking for regular Huiuru visits; registration is on site.

What else is happening

The wider program, A Day in the Life of the Crown Prince, uses Seongjeonggak and Gwanmulheon to explore the education of Crown Prince Hyomyeong through exhibitions and hands-on activities. Saturday performances take place at 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00. English audio guidance is available for the exhibition and activities.

Visitor essentials

Dates Sept. 22–Nov. 8, 2026
Location Changdeokgung Palace, 99 Yulgok-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Nearest subway Anguk Station; the palace is an easy walk from the Bukchon/Insadong area
Huiuru access Tue–Sat 10:30–16:30 / walk-in registration / 15 min / max. 8 per session
Admission The special program is free, but normal Changdeokgung admission is required
Sunday No general Huiuru access

If you are visiting Bukchon or Insadong this autumn, this is a rare reason to add Changdeokgung even if you have seen the palace before. Arriving earlier in the day is sensible because Huiuru capacity is extremely small.
