A Major Korean Textile Exhibition Opens in Seoul Tomorrow — Jang Eung-bok at SeMoCA
Opens Sept. 22 · Seoul Museum of Craft Art · Free admission · Anguk/Bukchon
A new exhibition dedicated to Korean textile designer Jang Eung-bok opens tomorrow at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA). Equinox: Autumn Equinox_Spring Equinox traces more than 30 years of work across pattern, textile, furniture and spatial design.
Why it is worth seeing now
This is a useful stop for travelers who want to understand Korean design beyond fashion and retail. Jang has transformed visual ideas drawn from traditional women’s craft and folk culture into more than 100 contemporary patterns, then carried those patterns into fabrics, everyday objects, furniture and interiors. The exhibition opens around the autumn equinox — the seasonal idea behind its title.
What you will see
The show is organized in three sections and follows the movement of pattern from surface to object and finally to space. It offers a compact way to see how traditional Korean visual language can be translated into contemporary living and design.
