Dyson Airsmooth Is Its First Hot Air Brush — Here’s What $249.99 Gets You
Dyson is moving into one of the most familiar beauty-appliance formats: the blow-dryer brush. The new Airsmooth is a single-purpose tool built to dry, stretch, smooth and shape damp hair, rather than another attachment-heavy multi-styler.
At $249.99 in the U.S., it also enters the Dyson lineup at a very different price point from the $499.99 Airstrait and $699.99 Airwrap Co-anda2x. That makes the real question less about whether it can do everything, and more about whether one well-designed brush is enough.
Dyson’s first dedicated hot air brush
Airsmooth is not an Airwrap attachment sold as a separate handle. Dyson describes it as the company’s first dedicated hot air brush, combining high-pressure airflow with a fixed, teardrop-shaped brush head.
The brush uses two different bristle systems. PivotFlex bristles can flex up to 90 degrees to create tension while allowing hair to release, while loop-shaped Anti-snag bristles are designed to collapse under tension instead of catching strands. Dyson says the combination is intended to reduce snagging, breakage and frizz while styling.
An intelligent heat-control system measures temperature 100 times per second. The U.S. specification lists four heat settings, three speed settings, 7.6 L/s airflow and a weight of 1.4 lb.

Why the $249.99 price matters
Dyson’s hair-care range has increasingly moved toward multi-function tools. Airsmooth goes the other way. It does fewer things, but the U.S. launch price is substantially below the brand’s flagship stylers.

The distinction is important. Airsmooth is not a cheaper Airwrap in the usual sense: there are no interchangeable curling barrels, concentrators or smoothing attachments. It is closer to a premium interpretation of the everyday hot-air brush.
How the brush is meant to be used
Dyson’s own routine is deliberately simple. The straight edge of the brush is used while gliding downward to stretch and smooth; the curved edge is used to create lift, bends and flicks.

Detangle and prepare towel-dried hair.
2. Dry + stretch
Use the straight edge from roots toward the ends for a smoother, straighter result.
3. Shape
Rotate toward the curved edge when you want volume, a bend or a soft blowout finish.
Three things to check before buying
1. You mainly want a blowout. If curling, multiple attachment styles or a highly versatile system are priorities, Airwrap remains a different category of tool.
2. A fixed brush head works for you. Airsmooth’s brush is not detachable. That simplicity can be useful for everyday routines, but it also means the tool cannot evolve through attachments.
3. Weight matters. At 1.4 lb, it is worth considering how long you typically hold a dryer brush overhead. The benefit of an all-in-one routine depends partly on whether the tool remains comfortable through a full styling session.
What Airsmooth says about Dyson’s beauty strategy
The interesting part of Airsmooth is not that Dyson has invented the hot-air brush. The category has existed for years. The change is that Dyson is now willing to make a more focused device at a significantly lower entry price than its hero multi-stylers.
For buyers who mostly use an Airwrap for smoothing and blowouts, that could make Airsmooth the more rational product. For anyone who relies on curls, multiple finishes or interchangeable tools, its simplicity is also its limit.
Either way, a $249.99 dedicated brush puts Dyson into a much more crowded part of the beauty-appliance market — which makes real-world comparisons with established blow-dryer brushes especially worth watching next.
