The Hyundai Seoul’s ‘Neo Local’ Opens Sept. 17 — 20+ Korean Regional Brands in One Seoul Pop-Up
LIVING INDEX · SEOUL / KOREA NOW / LOCAL DESIGN
A new Seoul pop-up is turning regional Korea into something you can browse in one afternoon. Edit Dept, Neo Local opens September 17 on B1 of The Hyundai Seoul, bringing together more than 20 Korean labels and projects from Seoul, Daegu, Busan and beyond.
This is less a souvenir market than a snapshot of contemporary Korean local culture: street furniture reworked as craft, traditional quilting turned into bags, the curve of a gat translated into tableware, regional manufacturing reframed as design, plus local coffee and modern Korean alcohol.
Dates: Sept. 17–30, 2026
Venue: The Hyundai Seoul, B1
Nearest station: Yeouido Station / Yeouinaru Station
Scale: 20+ Korean regional brands · approx. 283.6㎡
Admission: No separate ticket announced
What is worth looking for
Artist So Dong-ho reframes the improvised chairs found on Seoul streets as crafted objects. Kiim Studio brings Daegu’s traditional quilting technique into contemporary handbags, while Busan’s Haeridan-gil lifestyle shop Luftmansion represents a different kind of regional retail culture.
Gotae translates the curved silhouette of Korea’s traditional gat hat into tableware. Park Chanyong’s Small House goes in another direction, spotlighting everyday regional manufacturers through objects such as Daegu-made erasers and nail clippers from Bucheon. NERD adds modern Korean fermented alcohol, while Dutch Lab connects the project to coffee made with beans sourced from different parts of Korea.
Why travelers should care now
For first-time visitors, Korean design can be difficult to see beyond Seoul’s biggest fashion and beauty brands. Neo Local compresses a much wider map into one accessible stop, showing how regional craft, manufacturing and everyday objects are being re-edited for contemporary life.
The timing also matters: The Hyundai Seoul is the first stop for this Neo Local project before it expands to other Hyundai locations later in the year.
Traveler notes
Getting there — The Hyundai Seoul is in Yeouido and is connected to the IFC/underground retail area; follow mall signage for B1.
Language — some detailed brand stories may be Korean-first, but objects such as the gat-inspired tableware, street chairs and quilted bags are visually legible without translation.
Payment — major international credit cards are generally the easiest option in a department-store setting.
Extra stop — Dutch Lab’s local-coffee element is on B2, so check both floors if you want the full regional-food angle.
Why it fits a Seoul itinerary
Neo Local is useful because it does not ask travelers to treat ‘Korean’ as one aesthetic. Seoul street culture, Daegu textile craft, Busan lifestyle retail and regional manufacturing sit beside one another, making the differences visible.
If your Seoul trip is already taking you to Yeouido, this is one of the most timely ways to see what contemporary Korean local design looks like right now without leaving the city.
