Seoul Exhibitions This Week: 5 Art Shows Worth Seeing, Oct. 5–11
LIVING INDEX · SEOUL / EXHIBITIONS THIS WEEK
For Oct. 5–11, Seoul’s strongest art itinerary is not about chasing openings. Several substantial exhibitions are entering their final weeks, and three of the most useful for international visitors are free.
Best central stop Seoul Museum of Art, Seosomun
Best photography stop Seoul Museum of Photography, Chang-dong
Booking No general ticket required for the three highlights below
1. Yoo Youngkuk at Seoul Museum of Art
A Mountain Within Me is the largest Yoo Youngkuk retrospective to date, bringing together more than 170 works from six decades. Admission is free. City Hall Station Exit 10 is about 260 m away, making Deoksugung and Jeong-dong the natural neighborhood pairing.
2. We Are Martin Parr at Seoul Museum of Photography
This exhibition runs through Oct. 18 and looks beyond a conventional retrospective to how photographs circulate today. The museum is about 250 m from Chang-dong Station Exit 1. Admission is free, and Korean and English mobile guides are available.
3. Light Resting in the Grain near Seonjeongneung
Kim Duck-yong and Byun Yong-kuk approach the idea of Korean light through different painting languages. Artcube 2R2 is about 180 m from Seonjeongneung Station Exit 4, admission is free, and the gallery lists Korean and English website information.
How to plan the week
Do not combine all three in one day. Use SeMA for a central-Seoul art afternoon, Chang-dong when photography is the destination, and Seonjeongneung as a compact gallery stop before exploring Gangnam. International cards are widely usable in all three districts, but you will not need one for general admission here.
TRAVEL TAKEAWAY
The best Seoul exhibition search this week is less about novelty and more about catching substantial shows before the mid-to-late October closing wave.
