Seoul Hanok Week 2026 — How to Explore Bukchon and Seochon Without Rushing

LIVING INDEX · SEOUL / HANOK GUIDE

Seoul Hanok Week runs across Bukchon and Seochon from Oct. 2–11 with 82 programs, its largest edition yet. For international visitors, the useful approach is not to chase the full calendar: choose one neighborhood, one hanok program and enough time to walk between them.

Bukchon or Seochon?

Use Anguk Station for Bukchon if you want a dense concentration of traditional houses, public hanok facilities and craft programs. Choose Gyeongbokgung Station and Seochon if you prefer a looser neighborhood walk mixing hanok, small shops and contemporary city life. Trying to cover both quickly usually turns the day into transit rather than observation.

What is actually special this year

The city lists 82 programs, including 17 exhibitions, nine performances and more than 40 tours and hands-on experiences. Special hanok tours include buildings that are not routinely open in the same way, while public hanok venues host craft, tea and lifestyle programs.

International visitor notes

The official program includes selected foreigner-focused walks, including a Seochon exploration on Oct. 7 and Seoul hanok walking tours on Oct. 8–9. English availability varies by program, so check the individual booking page rather than assuming every session is bilingual. Cards are widely accepted around both neighborhoods, but small workshops may use separate reservation systems.

Pair it nearby

From Bukchon, continue to MMCA Seoul or Samcheong. From Seochon, combine the walk with Gyeongbokgung’s western edge and the small galleries around Tongui-dong. Keep the itinerary geographically tight.

TRAVEL TAKEAWAY
Hanok Week works best as a reason to enter buildings and programs that a normal sightseeing route might only photograph from outside.
